The 2007 Lexus GS 450h is the world's first hybrid luxury sedan and the first full hybrid vehicle with a front engine and rear wheel drive.

'Once again, we've applied our formula of no compromise engineering - this time to a luxury sport sedan which proves to us that hybrid power trains can work superbly in virtually any application,' said Lexus Vice President of Marketing Mark Templin. 'It's very important to continue pursuing substantial reductions in fuel consumption and emissions, while continuing to improve performance and driving pleasure. Our customers wouldn't have it any other way.

It will be a rear wheel drive full hybrid making it able to travel at low speeds under electric propulsion alone. Lexus says the GS 450h will have gas mileage similar to the average 2-liter, 4-cylinder compact sedan.

The Lexus GS 450h is a Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle. A SULEV-rated vehicle is 90% cleaner than the average new car.

The GS 450h will have a 3.5-liter V6 engine combined with a high-output electric motor--all driving the rear wheels--to pack horsepower at the level of a V8 engine. Lexus says it will have horsepower equivalent to a 4.5 liter V8. 0-60 acceleration is expected to be less than 6 seconds. For perspective, the 2006 GS 430 has a 4.3-liter V8 that has 300 horsepower.

It's built on the GS 430 platform and offers similar standard equipment and options, including a sunroof and perforated leather seats. It is visually identical to the GS 430, except for a large air dam on the front bumper to cool the electric motor, a power meter on the dashboard instead of an odometer, and 18-inch light-alloy wheels.

Hybrid technology, driving dynamics, motoring comfort and generous space inside redefines the new Lexus GS450h. Featuring more powerful and fuel efficient engines, innovative assistance systems, a wide range of safety features, as well as a superior standard of equipment, the new Toyota Lexus of today need no less than superior BMW replacement parts when the need arises.

Green is the new black, and environmentally enhanced methods are finding their way into an increasing amount of everyday items, including luxury cars.  This evolution continues to grow, and now some hybrid models are "dedicated" while others are not.

Apparently, a "dedicated" hybrid is one that has been built from the ground up, as opposed to an existing model that has been modified into a hybrid.  For example, the new Lexus HS 250h is the world's first hybrid-only luxury car.

The success of the Prius has essentially paved the way for others to become green, including exotic cars.  With all of the environmental initiatives and agendas, car manufacturers and luxury brands are stepping up and putting out some impressive and green endeavors.

Toyota has sold approximately 2 million hybrids worldwide to date, with 184,000 of those from its luxury division.  For every five cars sold by Lexus, one is a hybrid, outlining the increasingly aggressive trend toward cleaner cars and fuel efficiency.

Toyota/Lexus must compete in a depressed market, and the new HS 250h is the first four-cylinder option. The fuel consumption figures claimed by Lexus are impressive for the HS 250h, with a rating of 5.7 L/100 km combined highway driving.  Lexus seems to be setting the standard in luxury hybrids, as the 250h is the only four-cylinder hybrid luxury vehicle available so far, and it is competing directly with the BMW 335d and Mercedes C300.

Other awesome features of the green Lexus 250h hybrid include the use of ecologically friendly material like non-recycled plant material the seat cushions, upholstery, body trim and other components.  This must be a part of the "dedicated" hybrid, as this process begins during construction.  Hybrids are the new hype in luxury cars and exotic rental cars.

You only live once is my motto. Sounds cheesy but it holds true to my personality. From private jets to fast lamborghin's I enjoy all type of luxurious things. Why There Are Contradicting Consumer Reports About Hybrid Cars

March 7, 2010
