Battery Electric Focus ST (BEV) for The Jay Leno Show

by on 2010/07/29

A one-of-a-kind battery-electric Focus will make its television debut on The Jay Leno Shows Green Car Challenge. Celebrities who accept the challenge will be at the wheel, driving quickly to establish a fast lap time that future guests will try to beat. The electric Focus to be driven by celebrity guests on The Jay Leno Show is one-of-a-kind vehicle, based on the European five-door production Focus ST, modified into a battery electric vehicle (BEV) as part of Fords BEV test fleet. The Focus BEV foreshadows many of the same systems that Ford will begin selling to consumers in an all-new electric Ford Focus, scheduled to go on sale in North America in 2011. The new Focus BEV is one of four electrified vehicles Ford is introducing now through 2012 as part of the companys commitment to deliver best-in-class fuel efficiency with every new vehicle it introduces.

I love my zx5 and need to upgrade. I hate the look of the new focus they have now. If they offered this car with the same body style in electric I would buy one. Looks cool.

When they make the BEV Focus I hope they use this European body style rather than the current US one.

Blame USA standards, NOT Ford.

The USA DOES NOT adopt UNECE vehicle regulations instigated by Europe and used WORLDWIDE, The US and Canada the “FMVSS” vehicle regulations which offers no major safety advantages whatsoever.

There’s a reason why my cousin who lives in MEXICO drives a EURO-SPEC Ford Focus, Intead of the crappy one we have here.

You know, Typical american Logic which is supposedly “superior” but It FAILS TERRIBLY at that.

We’re getting the new global Focus early to mid next year here in the US–before anyone else including Europe.
