I like how you are resurrecting an older vehicle as an electric one.

This needs to be done to an older model Chevy Suburban soon.

6.7″ Advanced DC. not sure on the model number.

Good job so far. What size motor do you have there?

kylehondarider February 5, 2010 at 10:50 AM

There’s 11 batteries- 10 for the motor (120V) and one for accessories

LeSebShow February 5, 2010 at 11:03 AM

So, since everything powered was on 12V, the only thing electric powered will be the motor? 36 volts… wow, looks pretty damn strong

kylehondarider February 5, 2010 at 11:59 AM

These are high quality Interstate Deep Cycle Marine batteries

Templarzealot89 February 5, 2010 at 12:18 PM

ok well I was talking to a friend of mine and he had a good idea that I had not thought of. instead of using car batteries use marine batteries,

kylehondarider February 5, 2010 at 12:49 PM

It was around $900 for all 11. I got a good deal on them, ordered them from work.

Templarzealot89 February 5, 2010 at 1:19 PM

how much did all those batteries cost you?

kylehondarider February 5, 2010 at 1:26 PM

Actually, when I came up with the idea and started researching, I stumbled across Gav’s videos. We have talked several times, and it sound’s like he’s very willing to help me. check out n2confusion’s videos, he’s helped me quite a bit too.

It looks like you are off to a good start.
Have you seen Gav’s EV build?
Keep up the good work.
If I had a shop I would be all over this, but I’m leasing an apartment till next summer.

Thanks! So far, it’s going fairly well. Next weekend when I go home I’m going to take the template to the guy that is fabricating my stuff. I got a new idea last night for a coupler, and I’m going to ask him about that while I’m talking to him. Thanks a million for the support, I love showing everybody my efforts and showing people that anyone can do this with the right tools.

Go to EVDL(dot)org, search the archives and join the discussion list (but, yes, those are temp wires, but too insensitive to safely wait until they finally show a problem)

acanthus219 February 5, 2010 at 5:05 PM

sorry i know nothing about the mechanics involved with your project, but i just like to continue to comment with my support. i think what youre doing is awesome, and i look forward to more vids. thanks for sharing the process.

lpgas1 February 5, 2010 at 5:08 PM

yes mate they are temp wires. i’m not sure about your controller, nut the curtis 1231c that i’m using doesn’t need them. you just need the two wirtes from the pot box and the other three go to the motor and batteries. have you tried google for a wiring diagram?

hope this helps. cheers mate1 =]

kylehondarider February 5, 2010 at 5:45 PM

L91. Do you know what the red wires coming out of the motor are for? They must be temperature sensor wires to go to the conroller..?

lpgas1 February 5, 2010 at 5:58 PM

good work mate! is that an x91 or an l91 motor? i’m using the x motor in a geo metro. they work really well. keep it up
